Partly Due to the Recession Many Snowboarding Businesses Are Slashing Their Amount of Catered Ski Chalets
Due to the depression skiing bookings dropped last season.
Despite of strong early reservations and fantastic snow conditions.
These drops in snowboarders follows on from five years of sequential growth in the skiing industry, and the number of holidaymakers fell from 1.2 million two years ago to 950000 last winter.
Partly due to snowboarders giving their annual ski break a miss, whilst other snowboarders who’d usually take two or more snowboarding holidays, only had one.
The independent travel sector fell by 15% and numerous budget airlines slashing the number of their routes to several cities.
Moreover tour operators saw the sales decreasing by a similar 15%.
However, the top tour operators share stayed at a healthy 73% and France retained its position as the top ski destination with about 37% of the market.
Due to this many operators cut down the amount of catered chalets they lease this year.
The catered chalet markets in particular are going to see a fall in numbers in light of the fact that a ski chalet France costs more with regards to chalet chefs and lease when it is unoccupied.
It seems unlikely we will witness the last minute deals which were around last season.
Whilst prices are expected to increase, costs probably won’t go up substantially.
