New tower planned for downtown Birmingham

The Regal Property Group has submitted a planning application in Birmingham for approval that includes a plan to develop a £125m tower titled the Regus that if built, would be the tallest building in the city.

At the moment, the highest Birmingham buildings are the Beetham Tower at 120m and the BT tower at 150m.

If the office design is approved the Regus would have 56 storeys of office space, retail space, leisure space, and residential space at a height of 208 meters.

Additionally, the building would host boutique shops on its ground floor and contain a sky bar and winter garden. The plans also include room for a restaurant, conference suite, and meeting rooms.

Midlands property developer submitted the planning application to the Birmingham City Council at the beginning of the week with plans to break ground as soon as the end of 2010, with a completion date of about three years from the start of the project.

The property group claims that the project and new office complex will help bring more employment options to the area.

Midlands group member Roger Holbeche stated that the company believes that Regus building will become a focal point for Birmingham and will help to bring new state of the art facilities to the area.

Holbeche continued to say that the cutting edge design by Aedas Architects has the power to redefine the skyline of Birmingham to reach the goal of the Big City Plan.
